1962-64 AC Cobra

Intro

The AC Cobra was probably in the best condition out of the models I rescued. Of course, I got it from the same place as the others, my Dad's closet at his old house. :)

First Thoughts

The hardest part about restoring this one was separating all the parts. You heard right. EVERY internal part was still glued tightly in place except for the windshield and air cleaner. The wheels are still in pretty good shape.

Kit Quality

I have no idea who manufactured this kit, but I will certainly find out in the near future. The quality is excellent for a kit from this period with sharp details everywhere.

The Build

I've managed to repaint everything except for the body, and have most of the chassis back together. After a little detail painting on the interior tub underside and a nice bright red exterior finish, this one should be ready for display.

Construction Shots
Origional body, interior tub, and chassis.

Origional engine shot.

This is a pic of when it first came home. You can see some of the other kits I rescued in the background. :)

Origional interior shot. I have since found a complete (and quite nice) steering wheel. :)

Origional underside. Notice the fair amound of chassis detail.

One of the wheels. I couldn't believe that the whitewall decals were still salvageable. They might not look too great with the bright red I chose, though.

Rear suspension shot.

Completed engine bay shot. Notice that the manufacturer included the battery, even though you most likely will never see it when the kit is complete.

Completed basic chassis.

Completed basic chassis with air filter.

Completed engine bay. Notice the new coolant hose. I lost the origional hose, which you can see in the second picture. I think this one looks better, since the origional hose seemed a bit big and out of scale.
