1998 Shelby Series 1

Intro

First Thoughts

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. It was probably my first "modern" car in a long time. I'd been doing kits of mostly classics up to that point, and needed something new.

Kit Quality

I think this kit is one of Revell's best in the accuracy department. Parts fit is a minor problem, though. The two long coolant tubes can easily throw off the whole engine bay if you're not careful. The chassis rails also did not want to stay seated on the frame, but this may have just been my particular kit.

The Build

Building was no problem after I got used to the sloppy-ish parts fit. There really didn't seem to be a set position to anything, so I tried to eye everything up as well as I could. I was considering some engine bay detailing (two blue wires running along right frame rail), but I may hold off if I keep having parts fit problems.

Final Comments

A decent kit of a great car. Revell did get a lot of things right like the wheels and tires. There is still some work to be done on my copy, but it should be one of the first ones I get on the shelf.

I think these wheels look a lot more realistic done in aluminum instead of chrome.
