1968 "Bullitt" Ford Mustang GT

Intro

I stumbled over this one while my Mom and I were trying to find a Father's Day present for my Dad. I saw it and instantly thought of how cool it would be to get a fully detailed model of my Dad's favorite movie car unexpectedly for Father's Day.

First Thoughts

I'm not a fan of these metal body kits, but given the circumstances, I made an exception, and I'm very glad I did. I was having a hard time thinking of how I would discreetly build this one with my Dad going in and out of the area. A well placed towel over the whole project supported by paint cans seemed to do the trick. :)

Kit Quality

This kit's quality made me respect the metal body kits a little bit more, but I still wouldn't do one if there was a full plastic kit available. Anyway, like the '68 'Vette, there wasn't too much detail, but whatever detail there was could easily be seen in just the right places. Parts fit was a tad awkward, but not bad at all.

The Build

Final Comments

The only real modifications I could do in the short time I had to build this was some good detail painting, spark plug wires, and a new braided coolant hose. Lucky for me, the modifications went without a hitch, and everything ended up looking great. I waxed up the prepainted body and polished the windows for the final touch. My Dad was really excited when he saw it and as I was pointing all the details out.

The Stats

Manufacturer: Revell-Monogram
Status: Display
Paint/Finish: Factory painted "highland green".
Modifications: Detail painting, spark plug wires, and coolant hoses.

Construction Shots
Sorry, no construction shots available.

Finished Shots
Side shot.

Engine shot. The only things added here were the plug wires and top hose.

Interior shot. I really didn't go crazy with the interior mostly because of the very limited view and time constraints.

Rear underside. All I did here was liven up the chassis and suspension parts with some quick detail painting.

Front underside. Again, just some simple detail painting.

Top/side view.

Front shot.

Top view. You can really see the quality of the factory paint job in this one.

Rear shot.

Another top view.

Left quarter.

Front/side shot.

Front.

Another front shot. Imagine this rolling up in your rearview! (Though it might not be so scary if you're sitting in a 440 Charger!) :)

Front, with hood up.
