Intro

First Thoughts

This is my first Tamiya kit. I have to admit that I was a little intimidated by the feeble looking parts and kleenex-thin decals. Detail painting was a little tedious since there was so much raised detail to paint. It was a lot of fun once I got over the intimidation.

Kit Quality

Kit quality, of course, was excellent. The absence of the engine top really allows for investment in detail in other areas. I wish, however, that Tamiya would make a non-curbside kit of this. I think it would be really nice to have an opening hood instead of miniscule detail where you normally wouldn't be able to see it in other places on the model. It was still the best quality I've ever seen in a model.

The Build

After the painting came the building. The instructions were very clear, so building was a snap and pretty enjoyable. I had very few problems, so it took no time at all to complete the basic buildup.

Final Comments

All that's left to do on this one is color coat and decal, which won't take long once the weather warms up. An absolutely great kit for the semi-advanced modeler.

The Stats

Manufacturer: Tamiya
Status: On Hold
Paint/Finish: Will be primed with Krylon flat white, will be finished with Krylon medium blue, and cleared with Krylon crystal clear.
Modifications: Detail painting.

Construction Shots
Completed chassis shot.

Engine underside. This is unfourtunately the only engine detail you get. This is the main reason why I don't do many Tamiya kits.

Interior shot.

Another interior shot.

Rear underside.

These wheels were a bit hard to make look right. I thought that the white plastic looked too "clean", while gloss paint made them look too shiny. I finally found a happy medium by mixing a little gloss white and flat ghost grey. They look pretty good now.
